which are the largest individual owned houses in the world? How large are they?

An accurate list of the largest houses will be made up of palaces, and the list will be topped by the Sultan of Brunei’s 2,152,782-square-foot home. But if you exclude royalty, what you get is a list of mansions and villas that belong to the average billionaire. When such list is compiled, below is what pops up:

ANTILIA — MUMBAI, INDIA

This is owned by Mukesh Ambani, an Oil and Gas tycoon. He is the wealthiest man in India and one of the wealthiest in the entire world. Antilia, located in Mumbai is the most substantial private residence in the world, and it is valued at $2 billion. It has 27 floors, 400,000ft2 base area and 550 feet tall.

BILTMORE ESTATE — ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

The second largest house in the world is unbelievably located in Asheville, North Carolina. This is none other than the Biltmore estate which was completed in 1895. It is the largest private residence in the US with a floor area of 178,926ft2. It is made up of 250 rooms, three kitchens, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, banquet hall, indoor pool (70,000), bowling alley and a 23,000 book library.

SAFRA MANSION — SAO PAULO, BRAZIL

The Safras is very much similar to the Villa Leopolda. It is walled round, has 130 rooms and two pools (one indoor). It is the largest private residence in Sao Paulo and is owned by Joseph Safra. Its net worth is above $25 million in the year 2017.

WITANHURST LONDON — ENGLAND

The fourth largest private residence was completed in 1920 before a massive renovation took place the 21st century. Presently, it has a base area of about 90,000ft2; and its two basements contain a swimming pool, massage parlor, gym, sauna, movie theater, and parking space. It is owned by Andrey Guryev, a Russian billionaire who bought it in 2008 for £50 million.

Other houses who made this list include the Versailles located in Florida with a 90,000ft2 and owned by the Siegels; Villa Leopolda situated in the French Riviera with 50-acre floor area and sold at $750 million in 2008 to a Russian Oligarch; and The One, a 74,000ft2 floor area property owned by Nile Niami, a film producer and real-estate developer and is valued at $500 million.
